Yoga therapy can be defined in may ways, however at the most basic level it is the application of yogic principles to support the clients journey towards a particular spiritual, psychological, or physiological goal. With individual support and guidance from a yoga therapist, clients will utilize different yogic principles which include, but are not limited to, yama, niyama, asana, pranayama, pratyahara, dharana, dhyana, and samadhi. Yoga therapists will also guide the client through the application of meditation, textual study, spiritual or psychological counseling, chanting, imagery, prayer, and ritual to meet the needs of the individual.

Yoga therapy can be particularly effective for clients who may not have found the desired results from traditional therapy.
