Professional Counselor In Training

Heres a little more about Katy, from Katy herself.

"I believe that life is a journey. as we learn, we progress in our awareness of ourselves and of our part in society. Part of that journey is learning coping skills and developing support systems to build our resiliency.

I began my education in resiliency as a teacher for students whose life experiences interfered with their ability to navigate the systems put in place by our society. I wanted to further my skills to help those students and became a School Counselor in 2017. Shortly after, I becoming a Licensed Professional COunseling In Training and Substance Abuse Counselor In Training. My thirst for education continues as I continue to find more opportunities for training in various areas in the mental health field.

I am trained in DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) which is skills based strategies that helps you stay in the present through mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness skills and emotion regulation. skills While DBT is my main focus, I also enlist other therapy strategies and theories depending on my client's needs with a focus on the whole person. I use humor and motivational interviewing to get to know my clients, and to build a trusting relationship.

My specialty is working with adolescents and young adults who have experienced trauma, substance abuse, self-harm behaviors, suicidal ideation, eating disorders, depression, and anxiety.

I look forward to supporting you or your loved on in the journey of life."

Katy, we are so excited to have you on the Abegglen Counseling Team and we know your clients are pretty excited to work with you too!
